Chapter 10 Find Her No Matter What
Sean glanced at the caller ID, his brow furrowing slightly. It was Aiden.
He looked at Keira, asking if she wanted to answer.
Keira remained silent for a moment, but finally fumbled for the phone and answered.
Before she could speak, Aiden's cold and impatient voice came through.
"Keira, my grandmother's sapphire bracelet—when do you plan to return it? Stop pretending. I know you can hear me."
The sapphire bracelet, from Aiden's grandmother.
The only person in the Coleman family who had ever shown her kindness and warmth. She had given it to Keira on her wedding day.
Aiden's grandmother had held her hand and said she hoped the bracelet would bring blessings of peace and happiness to her and Aiden.
It had been the only warmth in that cold marriage.
At that moment, Keira's voice was as calm as still water, devoid of any emotion, her heart filled with ashes.
"The bracelet is in the hidden compartment under the bedside table in my old room. You can go get it yourself."
Aiden hadn't expected her to be so straightforward. He was momentarily taken aback.
He let out a cold sneer. "Why should I have to retrieve it myself? Bring it to me personally!"
Bring it to him personally? So he and Zoey could witness her misery and humiliation once more?
Keira smiled bitterly to herself and said softly, "Aiden, I'm blind now. I can't bring it to you."
Without waiting for his response, she hung up the phone, completely shutting out his voice.
Despite her condition, Keira still harbored hope for survival.
She could paint and write—the only two outlets she had when no one paid attention to her, when she was hurt.
She thought that if she could leave this place, she would certainly be able to support herself.
On the other end of the line, Aiden stared at his phone, his face ashen.
Blind? Another act.
Her repertoire of tricks to garner sympathy seemed endless.
But he wouldn't let her get away with it.
In the ward, Sean looked at Keira with concern.
He had overheard her words.
He hesitated before asking, "What do you intend to do about the baby?"
Keira's empty eyes stared into the endless darkness before her, her fingers clutching the bedsheet tightly.
Plans? What plans could she possibly have?
"I don't want it," she said instinctively, desperation in her voice.
This child was Aiden's, conceived under humiliating circumstances.
She could barely protect herself—how could she care for a child?
Sean remained silent for a moment, his voice low when he finally spoke.
"The doctor privately told me that given your current physical condition and the upcoming eye surgery, if you choose to terminate the pregnancy now, you may never be able to have children of your own again."
This meant that if she gave up this baby, she would forever lose the possibility of becoming a mother.
Darkness and despair surged like a tide, nearly suffocating her.
Why? Why was fate so cruel to her? Even denying her the right to choose?
As her mind raced in turmoil and anguish, Sean delivered another devastating piece of news.
He had contacted a top ophthalmology team abroad.
After assessing her condition, they indicated that surgery must be performed as soon as possible.
It was the only chance to save her life and possibly restore even a glimmer of light perception.
"The surgical process is complex and requires substantial anesthesia and powerful medications," Sean's voice was filled with reluctance.
"These would have a tremendous impact on an early embryo, potentially causing fetal deformities or even death."
The baby might not survive the surgery.
The immense pressure and helplessness nearly broke Keira.
What should she do? If she kept the baby, she might miss the optimal window for surgery, endangering her own life.
The child might also develop poorly due to her condition.
If she didn't keep this baby, she might forever lose the chance to be a mother.
Besides, this was a little life connected to her by blood.
In the boundless darkness and silence, she seemed to feel the faint stirring within her.
A maternal instinct and desperate determination slowly grew in her heart.
After a long time, she finally spoke with unprecedented resolve.
"If we could reduce the anesthetics and medications that might affect the fetus, would it lessen the impact on the baby?" she asked.
"Are you insane?" Sean's brows furrowed tightly. "Without those medications, how would you survive? Who's more important here?"
Keira fell silent.
Once again, she faced a choice.
Her life or her child's.
"Don't be foolish. If you can't live long yourself, what's the point of bringing this child into the world? To suffer?" Sean's voice was cold with disappointment.
Keira had considered this point too, and smiled self-mockingly.
She took a deep breath, as if using all her strength.
"Since I can't decide, let fate decide. If this baby can survive with me, I'll risk my life to give birth to it and raise it."
She left the choice to fate.
Sean looked at her pale but determined profile, his heart filled with mixed emotions.
He respected her decision. "Alright. I'll consult with the best obstetric specialists and do everything possible to protect both of you."
Meanwhile, in the CEO's office of Coleman Group, the atmosphere was frighteningly tense.
Aiden irritably loosened his tie, his voice cold as ice.
"Track Sean's recent movements, all his properties, his frequent locations, and any hospitals he's invested in. Find Keira for me, no matter what!"
He wanted to see where that woman and Sean, who had repeatedly opposed him, were hiding.
However, they had vanished without a trace.
His assistant, Justin Brown, deployed all available resources—a search of this magnitude should be enough to find anyone in the world.
Yet somehow, they couldn't find the person Aiden wanted.
For several days, Aiden was like a demon.
Everyone in Silver Bay knew someone had angered Aiden, and no one dared approach him.
In a fit of rage, Aiden ordered pressure to be applied to the O'Neill family.
Meanwhile, in the most inconspicuous small hospital built in the busy downtown area.
Sean received a voice message from Joshua.
[Sean, where are you? You haven't really hidden Keira away, have you? For the sake of our friendship, I advise you to hand Keira over quickly. Otherwise, your company won't survive, and I heard Aiden even went to your home.]
Sean paused the message.
His mind was in turmoil.
Aiden would eventually find this place.
He needed to find a way to get her out.
"Mr. O'Neill, am I causing you trouble?" a soft female voice came from behind.
Sean turned around to see Keira sitting obediently in a wheelchair, her face haggard yet beautiful.
She had just regained a bit of strength and had found her way into the wheelchair, slowly practicing around the room.
Even the nurses whispered that Keira, though seemingly fragile, was actually quite strong.
