Chapter 5
Jasper's lips were pressed together tightly.
He felt that Emily had changed.
The old Emily would do whatever they said, obedient and compliant.
But now, she was completely beyond their control.
Jasper gritted his teeth and said, "Emily, aren't you worried Mom and Dad will give you hell for threatening me like this?"
Emily turned her head, her gaze icy. "I'm just educating you on the law. If we're talking about threats, what you all have done to me is the real threat."
Jasper was left speechless.
William watched Emily with interest.
She was indeed calm and wise now.
Emily said, "Jasper, I'm giving you one last chance. If you don't want to come clean, then go to jail. I don't think anyone from Paragon Group will come to save you."
When Emily mentioned Paragon Group, Jasper's expression changed noticeably, his body stiffening for a moment.
Jasper's lips moved, his face turning pale. "No, they won't."
Emily sat back down, her voice carrying a strong sense of pressure. "Harper's death is already trending online. Paragon Group has completely distanced itself from it. This case is being classified as a crime of passion."
William raised an eyebrow, glancing at Emily in surprise.
This interrogation method seemed familiar.
Emily's face was expressionless, and she questioned, "Do you know what a crime of passion is? It means the most likely scenario is that you're the killer, especially with the evidence being so clear. Once the DNA results from her body come out..."
"It's not a crime of passion! I didn't kill anyone!" Jasper's body trembled, his heart pounding.
Jasper said, "It wasn't me, it really wasn't me, Emily, you have to believe me."
Jasper seemed genuinely scared now, his previously hateful gaze turning into one of pleading.
He didn't want to go to jail; he didn't want his life to be ruined like this.
Emily said, "Then tell us everything you know."
Jasper clenched his fists and said, "Last night, Harper called me to the hotel. When I got there, she was already dead, covered in those disgusting marks."
Jasper added, "I was really angry. I thought she was pure and clean, but her private life was so chaotic. There were at least ten condoms on the floor. She was promiscuous; she seduced other men. I never even touched her."
Jasper's fists pounded the table. "Harper was trying to frame me. I have no idea what happened. Emily, you have to believe me."
Emily asked, "When did you get to the hotel last night?"
Jasper replied, "Around three in the morning."
Emily's lips curled slightly, looking at Jasper with a hint of amusement. "Jasper, you're still lying at this point!"
Emily said, "When you got to the hotel room, Harper was clearly still alive!"
She had found the body at nine in the morning, and Harper's body still had residual warmth, with no signs of livor mortis.
Jasper shook his head and said, "Impossible, she was dead, she was definitely dead."
"Jasper, I'm a forensic expert. I know better than you when Harper died." Emily's gaze was sharp as a knife, making Jasper unable to meet her eyes.
William chuckled softly and asked, "Jasper, did you assault Harper?"
Jasper's face turned deathly pale. "I didn't! She was so dirty, I wouldn't touch her!"
Jasper's panic was evident.
William's expression turned cold. He asked, "Jasper, are you sure?"
Jasper was terrified by his gaze and, feeling guilty, didn't dare to speak.
The room fell into a brief silence. After a moment, Emily asked seriously, "Jasper, who are you covering for?"
Jasper replied, "I didn't."
Emily's lips pressed into a thin line, then she laughed in frustration.
Jasper was even more stubborn than she had imagined.
The two left the interrogation room, and Cameron from the forensic team handed Emily the autopsy report for her to sign.
The report clearly stated that Jasper's DNA was indeed found in Harper's body.
The other six samples didn't match anyone in the police DNA database.
After signing, Emily took the autopsy report and reviewed it, her brows furrowing.
The victim had multiple fractures, and the knife wound to the forehead had been inflicted while she was still alive. The skull was tough, and the force required to pierce it was considerable.
Jasper alone couldn't have done it.
William and Emily exchanged a glance, and Emily spoke first, "Let's go check the primary crime scene."
The presidential suite at the hotel had been ordered by William not to be disturbed, and Kai had already conducted a thorough examination with the trace evidence team.
Aside from Harper's personal belongings, there was nothing else.
Emily, wearing gloves, entered the room to search.
William stopped her. "Hold up."
Emily was puzzled. "What's up?"
William stood outside the door and took a photo, sending it to Kai. "Check if anyone has been in here."
Kai had taken photos when he left with the trace evidence team. Comparing them, he frowned and messaged William: [Captain Brown, the vase shows signs of being moved. Take a look.]
William approached the vase, the flowers inside already wilted. He moved the leaves aside and found a hidden camera.
William pulled out the camera, its red light still blinking, indicating someone was still monitoring the room.
Were they afraid of what the police might find?
To dare to monitor the police under their noses showed a complete lack of fear.
Emily gasped and asked, "Why is there surveillance? Was it here before the crime or..."
William's voice was cold. "After the crime. If it had been here before, Kai would have found it during his inspection."
Emily nodded.
They searched the room again but found nothing. It seemed someone had cleaned it thoroughly, even wiping away fingerprints.
Just then, Joshua called William, "William, the VP of Paragon Group, agreed to meet us."
William said, "Alright, Emily and I will head over now."
William and Emily quickly went downstairs and got into the car. William hit the gas pedal hard.
Emily's pupils dilated, and she quickly fastened her seatbelt, her face turning pale.
She felt a bit carsick, and by the time they reached Paragon Group's building, she couldn't help but vomit as soon as she got out of the car.
After dry heaving, Emily sensed movement above her. She looked up instinctively and saw a bloodied person falling rapidly.
The person landed right in front of her, and to her shock, there was a knife embedded in his forehead.
The man's eyes were wide open, staring blankly in death.
