Chapter 2 A SLAVE FIRST DAY
THE NEXT DAY
It was the rustling of the iron metal that woke me up from my sleep. I opened my eyes, all my body aching. I saw two figures coming in.
“Get up,” one of them said, his voice sounding merciless, and I gulped before standing. I staggered because I was really weak, but they didn't care.
“Follow me,” they said and started leaving. I tried to catch up with them with my weak legs. We got to some sort of opening where I saw people in some uniforms walking around carrying all sorts of things. Some of them carried cleaning tools while others carried cooking utensils. I wondered what I was doing here until they took me to a woman who looked to be in her early sixties.
“A new maid, make sure she feels at home, you know what I mean,” a guard said, and the woman nodded. The guards left me immediately and I stared at the woman who seemed to be glaring at me too. I couldn't help but wonder why everybody in this place hated me so much.
“Follow me,” she said, and I followed her until she got into a store room and brought out a uniform, throwing it at me. “Get dressed and meet me outside,” she said and left.
I sighed and stared at the plain uniform I was holding. It looked too plain and cheap. I had never worn something like that before. I took off my beautiful birthday dress which had been on me since yesterday and wore the uniform. It was short and wasn't comfortable at all.
I went outside and the woman took me to a group of maids who were cleaning.
“She will be joining you all from now on,” she said, and they all stared at me. The woman left, leaving me with them, and I just stood there not knowing what to do since no one was talking to me.
“Are you just going to stand there or get to work?” one of them shouted angrily.
“She must still be feeling like a princess,” another one said and they laughed.
My hands shook as I carried the broom. I didn't even know what I wanted to use it to do. I watched the way others used it and tried to do it that way.
“That isn't the way to hold it,” I suddenly heard a voice behind me and turned to see a girl. She was smiling, which was surprising because no one had smiled at me since the whole thing started.
“Oh,” I muttered, and I tried to adjust things but I couldn't.
“You are going to hold it like this,” she said, holding my hand and started guiding me on how to use it.
“Why don't you just let her do her work?” one of the maids asked.
“Why don't you mind your business,” the girl who I later knew was named Malina said.
After cleaning for hours, I felt like fainting and I could rarely move anymore. I just found a private place to collapse, resting my back on the wall.
I stared at everyone passing and no one cared about me.
“Hey,” I heard as Malina sat beside me. She was holding a bag which she dropped in front of me.
“I figured you must be hungry,” she said with a kind smile.
I went through the bag to see some fruits in it. I started munching on them because I was really hungry.
“Eat slowly,” she said with a smile.
“Didn't you hate me like the others?” I finally asked after eating a few fruits and regaining my strength.
“I did not, I just see you as a poor girl who is going through a lot,” she said as she smiled sadly and I continued to eat the apple.
“Dinner will be served later in the evening but for now eat to regain your strength,” she said.
We suddenly heard a noise from down below and we both climbed up and stared down to see what was going on. The pack were celebrating the Alpha, howling happily.
“Long live Alpha Damian, the Moon Goddess will guard your way,” the pack howled loudly.
“They must be happy to finally get rid of Alpha Raymond,” Malina muttered beside me.
“That was my dad, my mum. What did they ever do to deserve this?” I cried silently.
“I am so sorry, but he deserved it,” Malina said.
I saw the man who killed my parents coming out and the pack bowed to him. A beautiful lady was beside him and she was smiling brightly.
“Who is that?” I found myself asking.
“That is Lady Samara, the beta's daughter, also the future Luna of this pack,” Malina said.
I watched the way the people were rejoicing over my parents' death and my hand folded into a fist.
He suddenly looked toward us and his eyes met mine.
“He sees us, we should go,” Malina said in panic, but I remained there maintaining eye contact, feeling immense hatred for the man until Malina dragged me away herself.
“Do you want to get killed? Aren't you afraid? What if Lady Samara sees you?” Malina scolded, but I wasn't even listening to her.
We just had a little rest and returned back to working immediately, but I wasn't as weak as before. The maids kept mocking my parents' death, but I kept quiet and continued working.
After work, we were finally served dinner. Though it was little, I was glad I finally had something to eat. Within a minute, I was done with my food.
“Do you want mine too?” Malina asked while smiling at me.
“Really? Thank you,” I said and carried the food, gulping it down.
“Leena,” I heard. It was the woman, the head of the maids. I stood up.
“The Alpha wants you. Follow me,” she said, and I nodded nervously. My heart was thinking of all sorts of things. Why would the Alpha want me? For what exactly? Is he going to kill me too like he killed my parents?
I could hear the whispering and see the glare I got from other maids.
We walked through the corridor and soon we were in front of a giant door.
“Go in,” the woman said and left.
I entered just in time to see Lady Samara also leaving the room. As we passed each other, I could feel her cold stare on me before she left.
I saw Alpha by the window, his back to me. I could perceive some smell which made me realize he was smoking opium.
“You call for me,” I muttered after some minutes of silence. He didn't turn to look at me.
He turned slowly toward me, his cold eyes scanning me like I was nothing.
My stomach dropped. I felt trapped, small, and powerless.
“You’re mine now,” he said, his voice low and dangerous.
"You know what to do" he muttered coldly.
I stepped back, my heart pounding, my legs shaking.
Every instinct screamed at me to run, but I knew it was useless.
