Chapter 6 Sleeping with Me, Is There No Price?
How would she describe William?
Thalia racked her brain and finally came up with a fitting label for him: a sly, repressed guy.
Back in school, Thalia was quite the rebel. While others were focused on their studies in middle school, she was single-mindedly pursuing high school heartthrobs, determined to snag at least one. One day, she spotted William on the playground.
Thalia wrote him a love letter, and William replied with two words: "Of course."
Thalia thought he had agreed, so she started showering him with treats. But one day, as she was packing her bag, she found that his real reply was "Of course not".
When she asked William about it, she found out there was an issue with the pen he used.
Thalia was furious. She thought they were secretly sweet on each other, but William thought she was being clingy?
Thalia had been plotting revenge ever since, but William's sharp mind always thwarted her attempts.
"Mr. Brown, if you dare to break my leg, I'll make sure you lose something precious too. No one gets away with anything."
Thalia walked over, her slender fingers brushing his collar. "Mr. Brown, were you staring at my legs because you missed that night?"
William didn't budge. He removed her hand from his collar. "Ms. Smith, do your fans know how shameless you are?"
"Innocent? You think you deserve that title?" William scoffed. "Are your fans blind? You can't do anything right, but are the queen of tantrums, are worth admiring?"
"What do you think I am, Mr. Brown?"
William was fuming, thinking that he couldn't communicate with her
A lawyer bound by rules and regulations could never outtalk Thalia from the entertainment industry.
Thalia was born to mess with him.
At the Police station, when Thalia floated into the station lobby in a black dress, everyone was stunned.
They were practically drooling.
A cough from the side broke the spell.
William's friend Ethan Martinez walked over and quietly asked him, "Are you two really together?"
William was speechless.
Ethan added, "Why are you playing hard to get? If you had said yes earlier, you might have had kids by now. It's a blessing that the most beautiful woman in Emerald City likes you."
"By the way, when you two are in bed, are you the bottom?"
"You..."
"Where is she?" William cut him off.
Ethan's gossip was interrupted. He looked at William's dark expression and stopped talking. "This way, I'll take you."
Thalia overheard their conversation. As soon as Ethan left, she hooked her arm around William's. "Mr. Brown, why are you playing hard to get? It's your blessing that I like you!"
"Let go," William glanced at her hand gripping his arm.
'Let go? No way.' Thalia thought.
Knowing someone was taking pictures, she couldn't let go.
The gossip headlines would say they broke up.
Checked into a hotel yesterday, broke up today—she'd be the biggest joke in the entertainment industry.
In the interrogation room, Thalia met Indigo for the first time.
She didn't know who was older, but their first meeting was quite awkward.
Thalia pulled out a chair and sat down, crossing her legs. Even in the dim light, her elegance was hard to miss.
"Are you Thalia?"
Thalia smiled slyly. "Depends, but you're still messing with me?"
"Can't help it, you're my enemy," Indigo said defiantly.
Hayden had given them a lot of money over the years, but they never got the treatment they deserved.
Meanwhile, Thalia had everything—money, status, and was a top star in the entertainment industry.
"I've never heard such a fresh term," Thalia dusted off her nails and looked at her. "Enemy?"
"Your enemies are the other twelve illegitimate children, not me. The law states I'm the legal heir, and that can't be erased. What's the point of messing with me?"
Indigo's face darkened.
Thalia pressed her advantage. "Did someone put you up to this?"
"How pitiful," Thalia said, pulling a document from her bag and laying it out in front of Indigo, circling names with a pen. "If I were you, I'd deal with outsiders first, then the insiders. Start with the oldest and most capable."
"Oh, and exclude those who haven't done a paternity test. Out of the ones who have, there are only five."
She removed the files of the seven who hadn't done the test and circled the remaining five in red.
Behind the mirror, Ethan clicked his tongue. "Thalia is really something. She's practically giving Indigo a study guide."
"This is brilliant! Teach Indigo a lesson, say a few kind words, and let her go. Indigo will go after those people, doing her dirty work for her. Genius."
Sure enough, as soon as Ethan finished speaking, Thalia started playing the sympathy card in the interrogation room. "Why should women make things harder for each other? My mom followed Hayden all her life and got nothing. She was practically a widow for decades. Now that Hayden's dying, she can't bear to leave him. Women's hearts are often kinder than men's."
Thalia stood up slowly, looking at Indigo. "You'll leave here directly."
"You're not holding me accountable?" Indigo was shocked.
"What's the point? As long as you're alive, you have a share of Hayden's estate. If you die, I'd be committing a crime. Not worth it."
Thalia left the interrogation room and smoothly hooked her arm around William's again.
"Ms. Smith, with tactics like that, you don't need a lawyer."
Thalia put on her sunglasses. "Mr. Brown, you might not know, but bandits don't follow the law. It's like having sex without a condom—no sense of security."
William was speechless.
Outside the police station, a swarm of media was blocked outside.
When Thalia appeared at the door with her arm around William's, the flashbulbs went crazy.
William instinctively tried to pull away, but she pinched him hard. "Be a decent person."
"Shouldn't I be saying that?" William retorted.
With the media outside, Thalia, wearing sunglasses, looked up at him with a smile. "Doesn't sleeping with me come with a price?"
"Need I remind Ms. Smith? You were in charge the whole time. I didn't get any benefit and was humiliated."
"You didn't enjoy?"
