Chapter 4 4: The Betrayal
Aria POV
Nicholas steps closer to me gripping my arm as I turn to him, my face twisted into confusion, “Don’t look at me like that Ari,” he says quietly, “It had to be this way.”
“I don’t understand” my voice echo in the abandoned environment. “Nick, I trust you. I love you” my voice breaks
“You were never meant to have it all” Selene steps forward, he voice twisting into a tone I have never heard before, with an edge of something cruel. “Father plans to leave the entire estate to you, the entire fortune to you!!” she yells her eyes wide
“Not even a single thing for me, do you have any idea how that feels?” she moves closer
“I wound have shared it with you Selene, what is this about? Money? Or the man you killed!!” I yell back at her struggling under Nicolas strong grip.
“Me? Murder? Oops, last I know, you were driving drunk last night and hit that poor man” she pouts, her voice pretentious, “You found out the police is out for you, so I asked you to sign this voluntary confession and tried to convince you to submit yourself to the police” she continues with her plan
My heart shatters with each word as she speaks.
“Next you took all the jewelry and cash you had and escaped, but turns out, you jumped and killed yourself out of guilt before you could skip town” she smiles widely, like her whole plan is coming to fruition
And it seems like it has.
I take a step back, my heel scraping against the worn out bridge, “Nicholas…please. Tell me this isn't real” I blink at him
His jaw tightens, “I’m sorry Aria” he whispers
Selene eyes gleam with wickedness, “Do it.” she orders
The two men step forward grabbing my arms and Nicholas steps back. Before I can run the men wrap a rope around my body, cutting off the rush of blood pounding in my ears.
“Selene, you dont have to do this, please” I gasp my voice now small, I somehow know this is the end.
“I do,” she says softly with a smirk, “Because I can't let you ruin everything, and you're too stupid to stay gone” her smirk widens into a snide smile, “And now, your daddy, your fortune, your love, Nicholas” she turns to him and the scene I watch is even more vile than her plan itself
Their lips mesh together in a passionate kiss that doesn't seem like its the first time.
“They are all mine” she winks turning to me, she steps forward, her eyes on my ring.
“One more thing” she pulls the ring forcefully off my finger, and places it on her own ring finger, “Oh honey, the wedding will be spectacular, especially after the second phase of our plan” she turns to Nicholas
He picks up her hand and places a soft and slow kiss at the back of her palm, just like he always did with mine.
“Sad Aria” she tilts her head with a smirk
“I..i.. I supported you Selene, I loved you like a sister, I took your side everytime you would get in trouble, I protected you” I cry out
She rolls her eyes and mods to one of the men. He takes that as a signal and sends a punch to my side. Pain flares and I stumble backwards but I'm cut short by another blow to my rubs on my other side.
I taste blood in my mouth and Nicholas turns his head away. My vision blurs, tears mixing with sweat, “I trusted you, both of you” I choke out
“And that,” Selene steps forward, “Was your biggest mistake”.
The drag me closer to the railing and below the dark water ripples, a heavy torrent pushing through.
For a moment, everything slows down, the air is thicker with finality.
I'm going to die today.
Selene leans in one more time, her perfume the last thing to cross my nose, “Goodbye sister” she whispers with a smirk.
Both of them stretch their hands out and they push me straight into the water.
The world turns upside down and the cold hits me first, shocking the last breath from my lungs. The water swallows my screams, darkness covering me. My limbs start to feel heavy, the rope tightly bounding me, not allowing me to swim.
The darkness pulls me inside, the last thing I see is a distorted vision of Selene and Nicholas standing together as they kiss in happiness at my demise.
They planned everything.
My mind sparks with fear at first and then regret and finally something darker, rage.
My eyes shut close as I sink deeper. A figure appears, tall and shadowed. Hisnoresence is similar to what I had seen standing over the body and in front of the mansion doors yesterday.
But this time, obsidian eyes glow faintly, his voice rolling thought the dark depths
“Not yet Aria” he whispers and then the darkness is torn apart.
I jolt upright gasping for breath, soaked to the bone with wwtarr but I'm not in water anymore.
Black marble stretch in room, torches flickering along the walls which are carved with symbols I dont understand
“Am I in hell?” I question myself.
In front of me stands the figure that appeared in the water but this time he's real and not just a shadow.
He is impossibly tall, eyes dark as midnight, strong and wide shoulders, his dark hair falls across his face, a fist full of luscious dark curls, his jaw is set and sharp, but shadows curl around his body like smoke making it impossible to see his body properly.
“Welcome to the underworld” he starts, his voice love, impossibly calm. “I am Hades.”
I open my mouth open to speak but no words come out.
‘Hades’ steps closer, “You should have died my dear Aria” he says softly, “But destiny won't let you go.. I won't let you go. We are soul bound Aria.”
