Chapter 7: How About Sending You a Fortune
James remained silent, clearly agreeing.
Even though it was pouring rain outside.
Bianca lowered her eyes, a flash of triumph passing through them, but to others, it seemed she was still immersed in sadness. Hayden and Finn naturally comforted her.
Emily didn't show an ounce of weakness.
As the car door opened automatically, she stepped out without hesitation, not even glancing back.
Eli, noticing her stubbornness, tried to calm James down. "James, you know Emily's been spoiled by us. She grew up without proper guidance, picking up trash on the streets, so she's developed some bad habits. Just let her cool off; maybe she'll come around."
"Sure," James muttered, his eyes darkening at the mention of picking trash.
Wasn't she the best at pleasing people before?
If she came back now, apologized, and admitted her mistake, he'd forgive her for old times' sake.
Emily had no idea what he was thinking.
Even if she did, she wouldn't turn back.
She walked straight into the misty rain.
The pouring rain and rising mist created a barrier, separating her and him into two different worlds.
The car slowly drove away.
One after another.
Following was Cleo and Aiden's car.
Because Cleo wasn't feeling well and was worried, they rushed to the police station. Their long luxury car wasn't enough, so Cleo and Aiden drove a separate sedan.
Their car brushed past Emily, splashing water all over her.
Emily didn't mind and kept walking forward.
The car then reversed back.
Soon, Aiden was holding an umbrella, shielding Cleo as they stood in front of Emily.
"Emily, why are you being so foolish? You can't just break off your engagement with James. If James doesn't want you, with your background of picking trash, who else would look at you?" Cleo spoke earnestly, seemingly concerned.
Under the umbrella stood Cleo, dressed in luxurious clothes, with meticulous makeup.
Outside the umbrella was the drenched, skinny Emily.
The contrast was stark.
Emily looked up, through the rain mist, at Cleo under the umbrella. Memories of Cleo's cold-hearted desire for her bone marrow before her death flashed in her mind.
"Mom, you think my background of picking trash is embarrassing, but James as my fiancé can save your reputation. That's the real reason, right? How could I compare to your carefully nurtured Bianca?"
Because Bianca was her pride and joy, bringing her honor.
Compared to Emily, who had nothing and even the stigma of picking trash, Bianca was naturally better in every way.
After living a muddled life, she finally saw things clearly.
"Why won't you listen to reason? And you can't compare yourself to Bianca. You need to recognize your place." Cleo said, slightly angry.
In her past life, Emily was too self-conscious and weak, never truly resisting.
So Cleo always appeared kind and gentle.
Now, her true feelings were exposed.
She looked down on her.
Aiden also tried to persuade, "We know what happened in the car earlier, Emily. It's time to grow up. Go back, apologize, and admit your mistake. I'll talk to James and Bianca, and we can put this behind us."
"No way!"
Emily said firmly, "You should leave!"
This Aiden, in her past life, she risked her life to save him from danger. But in the end, he agreed without hesitation to Cleo's proposal to use her bone marrow, even knowing she was seriously ill and it could threaten her life.
After speaking, she walked step by step away from them.
Step by step, away from their lives.
As if she was distancing herself from them forever.
Aiden and Cleo naturally couldn't stay to continue persuading her and soon drove away.
At that moment, in a low-profile luxury car across the street, a sharply defined face saw Emily drenched in the rain, furrowing his brow.
"Wait!" He said in a deep voice, suddenly instructing the driver.
The car screeched to a halt.
The driver, a handsome man with a bit of a rogue look, turned back. "Daniel, you just got your wound treated. You called for a stop so urgently; did you spot the person who ambushed you today?"
Daniel remained silent, his deep gaze fixed on the rain-soaked Emily.
Was it her?
Wasn't she supposed to be sick? And now she's out here getting drenched.
Daniel was about to speak. "Look over there!"
At that moment, a car stopped beside Emily.
The window rolled down, revealing a bright but slightly arrogant face.
"Hey, get in! I'm feeling generous today, so I'll give you a ride." Sophia hadn't expected that Emily, who had just left with the Johnson family, would end up so miserably in the rain by herself.
Honestly, seeing how the Johnson family treated Emily at the police station, she felt a bit of sympathy.
So, her kindness overflowed for a moment.
"Okay!"
Emily responded without hesitation, opening the car door and getting in.
"Move away from me; you're getting me wet. Hurry up and dry off."
Sophia, seemingly disgusted, scooted to the side, tossing a large towel to Emily.
Emily took the towel and started drying herself.
Sophia couldn't help but mock, "Hey, were you kicked out of the car? I told you, Bianca isn't a good person. She pretends to care about you, but in the end, everyone dislikes you. How about we team up?"
Emily paused her drying.
She carefully observed Sophia's eyes, which were full of cunning.
Though not very smart.
But not bad-hearted.
Even in her past life, when she defended Bianca, Sophia never looked down on her or bullied her like the other girls in the circle.
In this life, Sophia had even actively shown kindness.
"Team up? No thanks, I don't want to be a pawn in your fight with Bianca." Emily declined.
Sophia, rejected, glared at Emily, about to speak.
"But," Emily's tone shifted, "I can offer you an opportunity."
"What do you mean?" Sophia was confused.
It sounded mysterious.
Emily smiled, giving off a sense of mystery, but her tone was strangely convincing. "Trust me, I'll call you tomorrow. Come with me to a place."
The opportunity to become John's student was mentioned by Eli at the police station when he scolded her.
Bianca didn't show any surprise.
She knew about it and was determined to get it.
Since Bianca wanted it, Emily decided not to give it to her.
And she planned to give it to the person Bianca least wanted to get it—Sophia.
"Alright, I guess you wouldn't dare mess with me." Sophia, having been stared down by Emily, strangely felt convinced.
Realizing this, she huffed, trying to save face.
"Please drop me off at Amber District, Maple Avenue. Thanks!" Since she was giving Sophia a favor, she didn't hesitate to make a request.
The place she mentioned was her and James's former home.
To be precise, it was the old house where James and Uma had lived when James took her in.
So, this was the place she considered home.
Later, she secretly bought the house after earning some money.
That night, she slept peacefully for the first time since her rebirth.
At dawn the next day, she was awakened by a call from the Johnson family.
"Emily, you're a girl, staying out all night, what's going on? And you promised to take Bianca to Mr. Williams today. Don't tell me you forgot?" Eli's scolding voice came through loudly.
He seemed to have forgotten that he was the one who kicked her out of the car.
Leaving her to fend for herself in the pouring rain.
Now, he had the nerve to question why she stayed out all night!
