Chapter 1
The werewolf world has one brutal rule: whoever can first produce a powerful Alpha heir gets to claim the throne and become the new Alpha King.
My sister Bella and I are daughters of the Red Moon Pack Alpha, born with the rare ability to bear Alpha-level offspring. This made countless Packs fight tooth and nail to claim us.
In my past life, I was fooled by Rex's handsome appearance—the Steel Fang heir. I married him and successfully bore him an Alpha bloodline pup, helping him ascend to the throne.
But fate played a deadly joke on me. Bella, consumed by jealousy after her own marriage failed, pushed me off a cliff during my postpartum weakness and took everything that was mine.
Now I've opened my eyes again, back at the mate selection ceremony. What shocked me was that Bella had also been reborn, and she'd already seduced Rex before I could.
But that's fine. My naive sister has no idea what kind of devil she's chosen.
Lyra's POV
"Father, if you don't let me be with Rex, I'll DIE!"
Bella screamed, pressing a silver dagger to her own heart.
I stood in the center of the mate selection ceremony, watching this pathetic performance coldly.
"Bella! Put down that knife!" Father lunged forward in panic. "Let's talk this through!"
The Pack representatives around us whispered among themselves while the Steel Fang elders looked smugly satisfied. They knew that tonight, no matter what, they'd claim one of us sisters.
After all, we possessed the precious high fertility bloodline. Having either of us would help their Alpha Rex become the new Alpha King.
"I can't live anymore!" Bella cried dramatically, tears streaming down her face. "Rex said he only loves me! Lyra, why are you trying to steal him from me?"
I stared at her pitiful face and saw the excitement and calculation in her eyes. That "mission accomplished" euphoria—I knew it all too well.
She had been reborn too.
And this time, she'd gotten to Rex before I could.
Memories from my past life sliced through my mind like razor blades. I had married Rex and bore him the perfect Alpha heir. Then, during my most vulnerable postpartum period, this "dear sister" of mine pushed me off a cliff when I wasn't looking.
When I died, she had smiled like a demon.
"Don't get upset, Bella." I slowly walked toward her. "If you truly love Rex, I would never stand in your way."
The knife slipped from her hands as she stared at me wide-eyed. According to the script from our past life, I should have been crying and fighting her for Rex.
"Really... really?" she stammered.
"Of course." I smiled and picked up the silver blade from the ground. "How could I bear to watch my beloved sister die?"
Father let out a long sigh of relief. "Lyra, you're such a thoughtful, good child." He turned to me, his voice filled with guilt. "You've always given in to Bella since childhood. I'm sorry to put you through this again."
Of course I had to give in to her. After all, he'd always favored his "fragile" younger daughter.
"Now you can choose from the other candidates." Father began introducing them. "Lightning Pack's Alpha Marcus is young and capable, Black Forest's Kyle is incredibly powerful—"
"Father." I interrupted him.
Everyone's attention instantly focused on me.
"I choose Adrian from Lone Mountain."
The air seemed to freeze.
Then explosive chatter erupted.
"WHAT?!" Bella jumped up, staring at me in shock. "Sister, have you lost your MIND?"
This was clearly beyond her expectations.
"Lone Mountain? That broken-down Pack?"
"What can that loser Adrian give her? Wild berries from the mountains?"
"Has she had a complete mental breakdown?"
Father's face turned iron-gray. "Lyra! Do you know what you're saying? Lone Mountain doesn't even have enough food to last the winter!"
I let them gossip while my heart remained completely calm.
In my past life, when Rex's enemies attacked me while I was pregnant and unable to move properly, it was Adrian who threw himself in front of me without hesitation. He was torn apart, half his body shredded, blood flowing like a river.
Even as he died, he comforted me: "Don't blame yourself. I chose this."
That's when I should have realized that this Alpha, looked down upon by everyone else, was the one truly worth entrusting my life to.
"I won't change my decision."
With that, I turned and walked away.
