8. Silent Rage Has Set
“Hazel?!...Hazel!”
Benji’s voice pierces through my mind, finally releasing the memory.
I was staring at the ground not realizing that I was now on my hands and knees. My vision was blurred by the tears that wouldn’t stop flowing. The pain and suffering that this poor girl had gone through, so much that she finally gave up on life. And these people…
These people.
Blazing hot anger shoots through me at the thought of these disgusting people. Other than Benji, every single one of these people were responsible for her death. They had no idea what she had done, what they made her do. Their cruel words, actions, and hate was beyond just bullying. These people were monsters.
Mustering up the anger and rage, I stop the tears and stand up to my full height, staring at the people who had caused this beautiful girl so much heartache.
“H-Hazel?” Benji cautiously places a hand on my shoulder.
I don’t flinch away from him or the sudden memory of him and Hazel staring up at the night sky full of stars. I embraced that memory; those are the memories that should be treasured. I only wished there was more of them. Sadly, there wasn’t and that was just too cruel.
Wiping the tears off my face I give him a bright smile. “Sorry for worrying you Benji, I think I just needed that last broken string to snap. I feel a lot better now.”
He frowns at me, and I knew he didn’t understand what I meant. But he’ll soon find out, they all will.
No one says anything as we are just standing there staring at one another. The girl I now knew as Nora gave me daggers laced with venom. But that was okay because I wasn’t afraid of her. For someone to keep harassing and bullying a defenseless girl just because of her background only spoke volumes to me how truly jealous she was of Hazel. And she proved that tenfold by what she did when she found out that Hazel was that asshole’s mate.
But with all that aside there was one thing I definitely learned from Hazel’s final memory. My traitor of an uncle was this pack’s Beta and that jerkwad was his son. Which meant he was my stepcousin. Bile rose inside me nearly making me gag. The thought of him being any relation to me, even by marriage, was the most disgusting thing of all.
I was so thankful we weren’t blood. Disowning him just got a whole lot easier.
And I definitely didn’t feel the mate pull, or the severed ties of the mate pull, from him. Which meant Hazel’s mate wasn’t my mate. Thank fuck for that. But be as that may, a new form of a plan was swirling inside my head.
I didn’t have to look for any answers of where I could find Marcus. He was here, waiting for me to completely destroy him and everything he held dear, starting with his son.
I look over to Benji, who still looked at me with a worried expression. “I feel a little weak. Maybe it wasn’t such a good idea to come back just yet.” I made my voice sound meek.
I needed to be alone to figure out my next step in my plan. Being here wasn’t going to allow me to concentrate. Too much hate and distractions. I go to turn around and out of the doors when Nora’s words stop me.
“Finally learning your place, good girl.” She claps with false enthusiasm. “Don’t trip on your way out honey.” Her voice was heavy with sarcastic sweetness.
I hear the snickers, the laughter and see the shaking heads. BUT. I will not play her game. I refuse to lash back right now. Her time will come. When I’M ready to show her just how nasty a person can actually be. She may have gotten away with Hazel being her victim, but I was in control now and she had no idea what was coming to her.
With a tiny smile I don’t look back and continue to head out the doors with Benji right beside me.
Nora, you can have this small pathetic little victory, because the real fun hasn’t even begun yet.
The sunlight warms my skin as the fresh air made me feel a little better. It was suffocating in there. Benji doesn’t say a word as we stomp down the steps ignoring everyone who stared at us.
Looking up, it was like my world had slowed down and a tingling sensation washes over me as a weird vibe goes throughout the grounds. Two male individuals suddenly enter the gates of the school causing everyone to stop and watch them as they causally walk with a laidback atmosphere.
I stare at the most gorgeous being I had ever seen. He was so tall, broad shoulder, and held himself with dignity. His body was lean and the clothes he wore fit him perfectly, like they were tailored just for him. His black, long sleeved, cotton sweatshirt hugged him in all the right places.
His black hair was beautiful as he thrust a hand through it, making it messy. Then he looks up right at me, making my heart skip to a near stop.
Wait a minute.
I have seen this guy before. Déjà vu hits me hard. Sunkissed skin, the sun giving him a sublime glow like an angel and his eyes…his eyes…like the clear blue waters of the ocean. He was the man from my dream. A man I had never met before now.
He slows down his pace as he stares at me with a mixture of confusion and curiousness. I don’t even register at first the way Benji stiffens next to me or the guy next to my dream boy faltering in his step as he looks back at my new friend.
Just as this stranger and I were staring at each other, so were the other two. Holding my gaze he takes another step forward, his face then going into sympathy.
“Hey, Hazel.”
Oh my god, his voice. That deep smoothness I couldn’t get out of my head since I’ve woken up this morning. Just hearing it, my body hums with pleasure. I wanted to hear it again and again, for as long as I can.
“I’m glad you’re safe. Are you okay-”
A sudden squeal rents the air, making all of us jerk at the obnoxious sound. I then get pushed aside roughly, Benji barely able to grab me before I fell on my ass. Righting myself, I watch as Nora comes running down the steps and right into my dream boy’s arms.
“Babe! I missed you! What took you so long?” She pouts as she peppers him with kisses.
He tries to back away from her sudden kissing attack. He had yet to hold her to him as he loosely puts his hands on her waist and gently pulls her away from his body. Her hands were all over him and I was surprised at the onslaught of pure jealousy hitting me dead in the chest.
My wolf growls viciously in my mind. With my fists clenched to my sides, I close my eyes to calm her down. I didn’t understand why she was so worked up. Was it the jealousy I was extracting that was making her go on guard like this?
Taking another deep breath, I tuned them all out and walk past him and his…whatever she was to him and didn’t even bother to look his way again. Benji kept his head down, sticking by my side like a frightened child clinging to his mother’s skirt. I couldn’t help but take a quick glance at the guy that had been staring at Benji this entire time.
I catch the dejected look on his face as he swallows hard, his jaw tensing as we passed him too. But other than that, he doesn’t make a move. He was handsome with dark brown wavy hair, golden skin as well, and just as broad and lean as blue eyes there.
I frown as I realized not once has either one of them ever been in Hazel’s memories. But he had said her name as if he had known her well. Who were they and why did I have a dream about him at all?
I take a side glance at Benji to see his crestfallen face. Hazel’s last memory then comes to mind. I didn’t notice it before, but now so many questions were rushing through my mind. Benji had found his mate and he had mentioned a ‘He’. So, I guess men were his preference.
Which was completely fine. But very difficult to accept with a pack. He also mentioned the other didn’t reject him, which must mean two things. The guy didn’t want to let Benji go and he too preferred men. How would his friends react to that if they were among that group of louts?
The Moon Goddess sure did like to make things difficult for some people.
“Um, Benji…I have a confession to make.”
He turns to look at me while we just randomly walked at leisure. “When I ran away I…sort of…fell.” I state uncertainly.
A dark red eyebrow rose an inch as he looks at me. “Fell? Fell how?”
“Well, I was running so…I wasn’t really paying attention to where I was going and ended up tripping on a shrub where it caused me to hit my head really hard on a rock.”
He stops dead in the middle of the sidewalk, grabbing my upper arm, making me face him. His face was now contorted in a worried expression.
“You hit your head?! Are you alright? Was it serious?” He takes a hand and starts rubbing my scalp as if looking for a bump that could still be there.
“No, I’m fine! Really! But…I sort of lost a few of my memories.”
His hand stills as he looks at me. “You got amnesia?”
“Not exactly, just a few things that aren’t really recognizable. That’s all.”
His eyes shift as he thinks, dropping his hand from my head. “Alright…so what can’t you remember?”
Everything, I wanted to say, but that would make it way too suspicious. Besides, Hazel’s memories did help a little. I was thankful for that at least.
“You finding out about your mate? What’s his name again? Also, who were those guys back there?”
His mouth hangs open in shock. “You mean Shane and Derek? Wait, are you seriously saying you forgot who Shane Fridolf is? Our future Alpha?”
“Wait, which one was he of the two?”
“He was the one that tried to talk to you, the one in the black shirt.”
I blanch at that. My dream boy was the Alpha’s son?
Well, this just became a whole lot more interesting.
