Chapter 5

I avoided Beau for the rest of the day. Even in training after lunch, that was mandatory. And instead I teamed up with a girl that I didn't even know. I hadn't met her or seen her all day.

"Well, if we're going to be beating the crap out of each other today, I should probably introduce myself. I'm Spencer." She says. "Ivy." I say.

"Yeah. You've already gotten around. That shit at lunchtime. Emma's an entitled bitch. She deserved what you gave her. Most people aren't game enough to fight back." She says. Well, I've had to fight back a lot in my life; otherwise people would have been walking over me wherever I went in my old pack.

"She pissed me off," I say.

"Yeah. She does that very easily." Spencer says. And then the instructor got started and demonstrated a few different moves, and we got straight into training. But I could feel Beau watching me almost the whole time even though I ignored him and had nothing to say to him.

He tried to catch up with me after school, but I ignored him and got in my car and left the school.

I headed straight home and locked the door, and I went upstairs to my bedroom, and I put my bag on the floor next to my desk, and I was looking out the window at the woods outside my window. The whole town was surrounded by woods. A run in the woods was always a good way to release stress for werewolves, but I couldn't do that yet because none of the warriors knew who I was, and if they saw me in wolf form, then they would definitely think of me as a threat. They would attack me straight away and probably kill me. So I couldn't even shift when I wanted to. Not yet anyway. Not until we officially met the whole pack. But I didn't know when the hell that was going to happen.

Mom never mentioned anything about that to me, and the Alpha has only been interested in talking to Mom. He never wanted to meet me. So I guess I'm not worth meeting after all.

My phone started ringing, and it said "Beau" on the screen, so I ignored it. And I pulled my books out and started doing my homework. The homework that we did receive from a couple of different classes.

But it was still early when I finished, so I got changed and I went for a jog. I knew that the sun would be setting while I was jogging, so I was hoping that no one would see me. And I was lucky enough that no one did. No one important enough anyway. When I got back to the house, I had a shower, and I got dressed into my pajamas, and I went to the kitchen to make dinner.

I was surprised that Mom actually came home early tonight, and we sat down to eat dinner together. And that was the last thing I wanted right now.

"So honey, how was your first day of school?" She asked, smiling at me. And I plastered on a fake smile.

"It was good. Boring. You know high school. The same old crap." I say.

"Yeah. So, why is your lip a little swollen?" She asked.

"The damn locker that they gave me. It jams, and they didn't tell me that before I tried to open it for the first time." I said, and she chuckled. I had gotten good at lying to my mother about my injuries. She didn't know that I was getting bullied at my last school for a couple of years. She only found out because she came to school one day unexpectedly, and she saw it for herself.

"Well, at least you'll know tomorrow." She says.

"Yeah. I will definitely be looking out for it tomorrow. How was your day?" I asked.

"I had to re-break a warrior's arm because it healed in the wrong place after he broke it once. It's been causing him pain ever since." She says.

"Ouch. That doesn't sound pleasant." I say.

"No. It definitely wasn't. So, do you want to have a movie night tonight? At least one movie?" She asked.

"I would love to. But I have heaps of homework." I say.

"Of course you do. I'm just glad to be home by dinner for once." She says.

"Yeah. You might be able to get a good night's sleep." I say.

"I hope so." She says.

After dinner I cleaned the dishes, and I said goodnight to Mom, and I headed upstairs to my room. But since my homework was already done, I lay on my bed reading.

My phone started ringing again, and it said "Beau" on the screen, so I ignored it and then turned my phone on silent. I didn't want to hear from anyone.

BEAU POV

I have tried to call Ivy four times tonight, and she's not answering the phone, and she ignored me all afternoon at school. I honestly didn't mean it the way it sounded. Yeah, I wasn't happy when Asher gave me this task of babysitting the doctor's daughter, but she turned out to be really cool, and I like her.

I was sitting in the living room texting her when Cole sat beside me.

"You really fucked up today," Cole says.

"You think I don't know that." I snapped at him.

"Well, what are you going to do about it? You really made her feel like shit." Cole says.

"I don't know what to do. She's ignored me all afternoon, and now she's not answering any of my calls or texts. I drove past her place before, but her mother's car was in the driveway, so I kept going." I explained.

"Well, you will have a lot of groveling to do tomorrow." Cole says.

"Who are you groveling up to? It better not be Emma." Asher says, sitting on the other chair in the living room.

"It's not Emma." I say.

"But it is Emma's fault that Ivy isn't talking to him." Cole blurted out, and I kicked his leg.

"What? Why? What the hell did you do?" Asher growled at me.

"I fucked up. Emma was attacking Ivy, and I got in between them and told Emma to fuck off. And I may have told her that it was Alpha's orders to leave Ivy alone because she's the doctor's daughter and we don't want to lose the doctor." I admitted. And Asher let out a low, menacing growl from his chest.

"I'm sorry, Asher. It came out all wrong. I didn't even mean it that way. I do like Ivy. She's really cool. She was a good friend. Even if it was just a couple of days. But now she's not talking to me." I say.

"She did mention Beau being like every other asshole at school. I think she might have had trouble at her last school." Cole added.

"I don't know anything about their lives in their old pack. But you better fucking fix this, Beau. I gave you one job, and you screwed it up the second Emma got involved. That bitch has been nothing but trouble since she walked through the front door of this packhouse." Asher yelled at me.

"I know. I will fix it. I just don't know how." I say.

"Figure it out." He spat at me as he pushed up from the chair and stormed out of the room.

"I didn't expect him to get so pissed off." Cole says.

"Why the fuck do you think I kicked you when you told him?" I asked.

"Sorry. I knew that he asked you to show her around and stuff. I didn't realize how serious it was though." Cole says. I stand up and grab my keys, and I walk out the front door without saying another word.

I drove near Ivy's house but parked down the road, and I went around the back, and I could see her sitting at her desk in her bedroom from where I was standing in the woods. So I threw a stone at her window, but it wasn't closed, and it hit her in the head.

"Ouch. What the fuck?" she yelled, grabbing her forehead.

"Shit, sorry. I thought the window was closed." I say.

"Haven't you hit me enough today already?" She asked.

"We need to talk," I say.

"No, we don't. Go away." She said.

"I'm not going anywhere until you talk to me." I said, and she just sat back down. So I sat down, leaning against a tree right outside her window. She stood up, shaking her head, and she walked out of her room.

A few seconds later she came out the back door, and I stood up to face her.

"What the fuck do you want now?" She asked.

"I need to explain about today. I was asked to show you around when you first got here. But I didn't expect to like you as much as I do. I really like you, and I don't want to lose you as a friend. I just said all that shit to Emma so that she would leave you alone. Because she wouldn't have left you alone. She would have made it her mission in life to make your life miserable." I explained.

"It wouldn't be the first time I've dealt with dicks like that. I can handle it. But you made it sound like you're just doing it out of duty to your Alpha and brother." She says.

"I know. Which is why I am here explaining to you now. If that were true, then I wouldn't be here. I wouldn't care how you felt. But I do. Because that's not how I feel. You're actually the closest thing I've had to a friend in ages. I can't even talk to my actual friends like I talk to you. Or mess around with them like I do with you. I don't want to ruin this friendship because I said something stupid while I was really pissed off at someone else." I explained. Ivy took a deep breath in and let it out.

"I didn't have any friends at my last school. Everyone bullied me. They all hated me. And I hated being there. I thought it was going to be different here. So hearing you say that to Emma was a real kick in the teeth. Do you understand that?" She asked. "I do understand that it was a kick in the teeth. I don't understand why you didn't have any friends. You're a cool chick." I say. "That's a story for another day. But forgiving people is pretty hard for me." She says.

"I promise that if you forgive me, you will never regret it." I say.

"I've never been asked to give anyone a second chance before." She says.

"You can rip my heart out if I ever hurt you again." I say.

"Deal." She says, looking very serious. Which made me a little nervous. But I accepted it.

"Alright. I'll meet you in the car park at school tomorrow morning." I say.

"Alright." She says. So I walked away with a smile on my face, and I was so relieved that we were able to work that out. I couldn't believe that she actually gave me a second chance. But that just gave me questions about her last school. What the fuck happened there? Why wouldn't people want to be friends with Ivy? She's too cool not to be friends with. And a lot of laughs.

I didn't know how I was going to find out, but I was going to figure it out somehow. I just knew that I had to. Maybe it was something that I could help her with. Because it sounds like it's something that had a real effect on her.
