Chapter 6 Chapter 006
Knight’s POV
She passed out, her tiny frame sagging in my arms. “Oh my God, is she okay?” “Is that normal? how can someone just pass out like that?!” The employees in the boardroom all talked over each other. Their disgusting whispers and mocking tone grating on my ears. “That is enough, you all should revise each part of the material she was about to present” I demanded, my tone icy.
I slammed the door to the boardroom shut with a foot, cutting off the view of the workers in the boardroom with their various faces expressing shock and disbelief. I pressed my thumb against the door of my office, the door hissed open. I gently laid her on the bed, removing her shoes.
“Hello, Doctor Marvis. I want you and the hospital’s best doctors to report at my office immediately, it is an emergency” I ordered, not waiting for his response before I ended the call. My family had invested billions of dollars into Life First hospital so we had the advantage of having the best medical care money can buy.
I took in her unconscious form, watching her chest rise and fall in an uncoordinated manner. Then I felt something, a little whine slipped out of her but she was still unconscious. Confused, I drew nearer to her, ear lowered close to her but I heard nothing.
The whine came again, this time louder, as if…it was a wolf crying out for help. My wolf reached out to hers once more, trying to make a connection. A louder whine met my wolf, who struggled to be let out.
“She has a wolf” I mumbled out, surprise mixing with happiness. I would be able to mark her and we would complete the bond. My smile faded as all earlier traces of her wolf vanished making my wolf howl out his disappointment.
There was something preventing her wolf from coming out, it had no traces and seemed to be weakening. A knock resounded against my office’s door, breaking me out of my thoughts “Open” I activated the smart control of the office, opening the door for the doctors.
“Her heart condition is very bad; it is a miracle she is still alive” Dr Marvis remarked, face grim as he listened to her heartbeat. I had to bite back a growl every time he moved his stethoscope around the area of her ribcage where her heart was meant to be.
“She shouldn’t be working in a company like this, I am sure she was told but just decided to ignore her doctor. “Patients with heart problem like her usually drop dead in the middle of their jobs when they are in an overstressed state” One of the Doctors behind me explained, tone bland.
“What did you just say?” I gritted out, my eyes going red with anger. “I-I was just describing what usually happened to…”
“Dr Marvis, by the next investor meeting I don’t want to meet him at the hospital. If I do you wouldn’t like the results” I let out, anger pouring out of me in waves. The audacity for him to tell me my mate would drop dead! If it weren’t for the fact that I was holding back my wolf by the teeth, he would have been torn to pieces. Literally.
“I-I-Very well, sir” Dr Marvis responded, hands trembling slightly around his stethoscope. I should erase that doctor away from the surface of the earth, making him regret what he said in the most brutal way. But one wrong move could spoil everything with Vamica and my father’s ultimatum.
“I-I am sorry but I was just saying the truth; nothing but the truth was what I said” The doctor exclaimed, the stench of fear and desperation mixing and flooding my nostrils. It was as if the doctor was itching to be tortured; he was really pushing me towards doing just that.
“Damian, I need someone off the company grounds and banned from all hospitals immediately” I explained into the phone, hands tightening around it.
“Ok, Boss. My guys would come up now” He replied shortly, tone firm. The other doctors looked at me first with shock then wearily. As the security dragged the doctor out, he tried to break free. “I didn’t deserve this; I did nothing wrong!” he screeched out.
“Your job is to diagnose patients not mock them, I would not tolerate further unprofessionalism” I announced, looking at each of them. “Yes, sir” They all mumbled out, eyes lowering to the ground.
“She would need adequate rest and…a few days break from work if possible” Dr Marvis divulged. She taking a break meant I would not be able to see her. It might make me seem a bit of an asshole but I wanted to see her every day.
I couldn’t possibly convince her to come live with me; who she considers a stranger, so the only way for me to see her is at work. And moreover, wolves had the ability to heal faster than humans; her wolf should heal her heart with time.
“Thank you for your time, Dr Marvis” I shook his hand, sliding the door shut as he and the doctors that came with him exited my office. I picked a blanket from the bottom drawer of the wardrobe I had in my office and draped it over her body.
She curled up against the blanket, her figure looking even smaller in the middle of the bed. According to her medical file, she has Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy which is not curable but can be managed. She was prescribed Beta blockers monthly to slow down her heart, calcium channel blockers to relax her heart’s muscles and Antiarrhythmics to help with the rhythm of her heart beat.
I clutched her small hand in mine, her skin soft and dewy. Her condition was most likely why she had no work experience. I would make sure nothing like that happens anymore; all doors would be opened for her and no one would be capable of refusing her a thing. That I promise.
