Chapter Five
ISADORA POV
“Where are you?” He asked as I pushed the door open and ascended the staircase.
“Welcone ma’am” the maid greeted with a bow and I nodded.By the time I got to my bedroom, I threw my purse over the bed and began undressing myself while my EarPods were still in my ear.
“Oliver is this an emergency situation?” I asked. He sounded quite tensed over the phone.
“I’m asking because Rowan is dead. I saw the video of what happened between you two … it’s all over the internet. People think you’re the one to be blamed for his death.”
“Oliver, my conscience is as clear as thin glass. I have nothing to do with his death therefore, I’m unbothered about what the netizens think.” I responded calmly while casually playing with my breast as I studied my reflection in the mirror.
“What does that have to do with where I’m at? You sounded like something’s going on” I added.
“You haven’t called since the left the conference center.” He said.
“Oh well I guess I’ve just been busy, lately.” I smiled as I laid down on the bed, letting thoughts of Charles fill my head.
“Why does it feel like I can hear you smiling?”
“That’s because I am..”
“Isa, is there anything you’re not telling me?” He asked.
“What do you mean?” I probed, pretending not to be aware of exactly what he was talking about.
“You’re not working in the United States unless your father has minor jobs for you to run for him. So what could possibly be keeping you busy.”
“Okay since you really want to know, I met this guy—“
“what?!” He interrupted in shock I suppose.
“Why are you —““Who is he, Isadora?”
“Err… he goes by the name Charles…”
“Charles who?!” Oliver probed.
“Oliver what’s up with the questions? You should have waited till I was done telling you about him before you started interrupting.”
“Okay fine, my apologies.” I could hear him exhale deeply over the phone.
“Well, we met a few weeks go at one of daddy’s grand events. Things are going well between us.” I said in a soft tone with my eyes closed, my hands to my chest and a smile plastered on my face as memories of the first day we met seeped into my mind.
“Do you even know anything about the guy?” Oliver asked.
“Of course I do!” I sprang off the bed.
“Is your father aware? Does he accept this …Charlie?”
“Oliver, his name is Charles not Charlie.” I narrowed my eyes annoyingly.I’ve always known Oliver to be this way.
Ever since we broke up and decided to just stay friends, he has been keeping tabs on my love life and going as far as discouraging me from majority of my past relationships after him.
I always thought he still had a soft spot for me especially since after we broke him, he still had feelings for me but I no longer felt the same way and once in a while, one thing may lead to another and next thing I know, I’m wrapped up in his hands while we’re both lying down naked in a king-sized bed.
“You know what? I’m flying down to the United States, first thing tomorrow morning.”
“W…why?!” I questioned in utter confusion.
“I have work to do plus I want to hang with you for a bit.”
After his second response I just knew that was a lie, he had no work to do. “Oh really?” I replied sarcastically as I got up and wrapped myself in a towel.
“Yeah once I arrive, we can meet up. I can’t wait to see you.” I could hear him smiling over the phone whereas I had a straight face, typical Oliver.
“Whatever you say. Oliver, I have to go now, I need to shower. I have a big day ahead of me tomorrow.”
“mmm a shower.” He hummed. “I miss when we used to have those together.”I brushed my hand again my face and let out a sigh, “Olly, I have to go now.”
“Okay goodnight.” I hung up the phone and tossed my EarPods on the ottoman.
On my way to the bathroom, there came a knock on the door.I opened the door and met Gracie, the maid standing behind it, “ma’am dinner is ready.”
“Alright, I’ll be right out.” I responded and shut then door, then I took a warm bath and got changed then headed downstairs. When I got there, daddy, was already at the table.
“Darling…” he called out softly in a husky voice.“I daddy, I responded as I took a seat and dug into my food. Judging from his facial expression, daddy didn’t seem too excited.
“How’d your day go?” I asked while staring at him.“Well, my deal with Antikson has been called off and my beautiful daughter lost a supposed fiancé—”
“daddy” I interrupted.“But don’t worry, I’m arranging someone else for you and this time it’s with your knowledge.”
“Daddy, I don’t think that’s a good idea.” I said as I dug my fork into my plate. I felt my heart drop with those words came out of his mouth and then Charles crossed my mind too.
Daddy wasn’t aware of my relationship with Charles and we started off as just friends now things have grown complicated with intimacy in the picture.
We still needed time to figure everything out before jumping into something else.
“How about Oliver” Daddy asked. My fork froze midway to my lips. Heat crept up my neck causing beads of sweat to appear on my forehead even though the air conditioning was on.
Why was daddy bringing Oliver up? I thought he would have forgotten about him by now.
“O… Oliver?” I croaked, trying to mask the tremor in my voice. “What about him?”
