Chapter 2 Two

Growing up in a place where no one valued me, I promised myself to become someone whom no one looks down on in the future.

That was how I chose this career and became a detective.

I am skilled at my job,

I deliver the best,

And I bring the bag people into the book.

Alex knows everything,

And he supported me throughout my study and celebrated with me during my promotion.

However, for the past two years after our baby arrived, he changed.

Alex has stopped being nice to me,

He always complains about my spending the entire day at work.

Alex knows how much I love this job yet, he is trying to detach me from it.

“You don't even have time for our only child, Lizzy. What then will happen when we have another kid?”

Another kid?

No way,

I am not ready for any more kids now.

Sophia is enough for us.

Having more than one kid will affect my job and that is not what I want.

“Alex, relax, I am so tired right now and need to sleep. Tomorrow, I will leave the house early to continue with my investigation.”

Alex flared up,

He grabbed my hand and pinned me to the wall.

His heart pounded against his chest as he breathed out hot air from his nostrils.

“Stop this, you are hurting me.”

I tried pushing him away, but he gripped tightly.

“I won't release you until you promise me you will quit that Job.”

What!

He must be out of his mind.

No one can stop me from doing my job that I love so much.

Not even him.

“I don't remember you sponsoring my education. Alex.”

I gathered up my energy and pulled him away.

“So, stay in your lane and let me be!”

That night,

I didn't sleep in the master’s bedroom.

I slept in Sophia’s room.

And the next morning when I woke up and wanted to leave the house, Alex locked me inside the room.

“You aren't going anywhere!”

He thundered and all I could hear next was him walking away.

What does he mean by this?

Ahhh!

Alex is seriously getting on my nerves.

Since there are no spare keys in the house, he gives me no choice.

I stepped back, removed my pistol from its holder on my waist, and released the trigger.

The hook jerked off and I stepped out of the room.

Sophia’s nanny brought her out of the room as she was crying so hard.

“She got scared, Ma’am.”

Oh my!

I was so reckless.

Sophia heard the gunshot and got frightened.

“I am so sorry, baby.”

I took her from the nanny and held her head on my chest.

“Don't cry, Mummy is here.”

She stopped crying,

But as soon as I handed her back to the nanny, she started crying again.

I am running late already.

And who knows what that jerk will do if he returns and finds me in the house?

“Mummy will be back later, okay?”

I kissed her and hurried out of the house.

At the headquarters,

Mr. Mathew was cursing loudly.

“If I fail this election, I swear, you all will regret it!”

Pfft.

What election?

“Calm down, Mr. Mathew, the election has been called off.”

He glared at me the moment I said that.

“What did you say?”

He heard me right.

And instead of wasting time repeating what I had just said, I proceeded with the questioning.

“Yesterday, you said you and Mr. Wang aren't enemies, correct?”

He bobbed his large head angrily.

“Unfortunately, a few days ago, you both got into a heated argument and you threatened him with his life.”

“What!”

He sprang up, bulging out his red eyes.

“Sit down, Mr. Mathew, do not waste my time.”

Seeing the gravity of the presentation, he sat down, grumbling.

“I didn't threaten him.”

He said.

Well,

Had it been I had not obtained evidence, I wouldn't have been left with any choice but to believe him.

An officer passed me a small tape and I pressed it, then placed it on the table.

‘I swear, I will kill you if you don't back out of this election. That seat is mine, not for idiots like you.’

“Isn't that your voice?”

I asked him after pausing the audio.

He lowered his head in shame and exhaled.

“Yes, that was me.”

Good.

“But I didn't kill him. That was just a mere threat, Detective Lizzy, please believe me.”

Hahaha

What a funny man.

“Lock him up.”

I ordered and left.

Even though we've gotten a heads-up on the case, I still need to gather more clues to be sure he was behind it.

Looking at Mr. Mathew’s personality, he can do whatever he pukes out of his mouth.

However, he has never been caught in dirty work such as this before.

Perhaps, he must be doing it secretly.

“We are going to his mansion for an investigation right now.”

I said to my juniors and then we left.

The mansion was just the way I had ordered it to be last night.

Still sealed, and the officers are on patrol.

However, I saw a familiar car parked in front of the mansion.

“Didn't I order that no one trespasses into this house?”

“Yes, you did. However, we tried to stop him, but he overpowered us and went inside.”

Who on earth is that?

Doesn't he know he has just gotten himself into trouble?

“Get him out of here right now!”

I ordered, but they didn't take a step.

“Detective Lizzy, I think you should go in and see for yourself. Maybe he will listen to you.”

What da!

Well,

No problem.

I went in,

And sitting on the sofa with legs crossed is Alex.

What is he doing here?

And he isn't alone,

There are other men in the living room.

“What are you doing here, Alex?”

He turned towards me, removed his glasses, and smiled.

“Come sit here, sweetheart.”

Uhn?

Is he referring to me or to whom?

For two years now, he has stopped calling me sweet names.

Why now?

What is Alex up to?
