Chapter 5 Alexander, Liking You Is Really Boring
That evening, Sophia and Victoria went to Kensington Private Medical Center together.
Emily was staying in a VIP room in the neurology department. The Kensington family had been covering her medical expenses for the past two years, but now, with the divorce coming, she needed to figure out how to earn more money. Fortunately, Emily's condition had somewhat stabilized. Transferring her to another reliable hospital after discharge would be a good option. In the hallway, they unexpectedly ran into Noah.
Sophia greeted him, and Noah smiled, slowly walking over.
He noticed the red marks on Sophia's wrist and quickly connected them to last night's incident. His heart ached as he said, "Sophia, I have something I'd like to talk to you about privately. Is that okay?"
Sophia pressed her lips together, hesitated briefly, then nodded.
Victoria patted her shoulder. "Then I'll go check on Emily first."
"Okay, thanks so much," Sophia said sincerely.
A few minutes later, Noah led Sophia to a quiet corner.
"Let me see your hand."
Sophia froze, and before she could react, Noah gently took hold of her wrist.
Only then did Noah notice that the inside of Sophia's wrist was also bruised, and her thumb and index finger seemed to be cut by glass.
His expression darkened. He understood men's possessiveness all too well.
"These injuries—did Alexander do this last night?"
Noah's tone was cold. Sophia was startled by his grim expression and forgot to answer for a moment.
"Come on, let me take you to get these treated, and we should also check your injured nose." Noah sighed, his expression softening. "You don't want Emily to see these marks on your hands later, right? Don't worry, it'll be quick."
Sophia couldn't find a reason to refuse and nodded in agreement.
"By the way, what brings you here today?"
"I came to handle some things. I've also prepared a surprise for you—you'll find out in a few weeks."
Sophia pouted. "You always love to be such a tease."
Noah laughed and, holding her hand, walked toward the elevator. He suddenly stopped and said seriously, "Sophia, promise me something."
"From now on, when you're in trouble, contact me first, okay? I'll protect you."
Just then, the elevator doors opened, and Noah's voice reached Jack's ears.
Jack Foster, tall and dressed in a gray suit, strode out with long steps, passing right by them.
He recognized Sophia immediately and, from the corner of his eye, caught sight of Sophia and Noah's clasped hands. He raised his eyebrows with amusement.
As Alexander's best friend, he occasionally visited relatives and friends at Kensington Private Medical Center.
After walking some distance away, a gossipy gleam flashed in Jack's eyes. "Interesting."
He smiled and pulled out his phone, discreetly snapping a photo of their intimate hand-holding, then quickly typed out a message to Alexander:
[Alexander, looks like this Sophia is about to become your ex-wife.]
Meanwhile, at the Kensington estate.
Alexander had come home unusually early. He sat alone in the living room. The huge house felt empty and somewhat desolate.
He'd been in a foul mood all day.
In the past, he would definitely have taught a lesson to whoever dared drug him with an aphrodisiac, but this time he had no such inclination.
He wasn't stupid. If he wanted to investigate, he could find out who did it.
All lies would crumble before him.
He already knew the answer deep down, but didn't want to address the elephant in the room.
However, what was most infuriating was that Sophia actually wanted to divorce him.
And if the butler hadn't told him, he wouldn't have known that Sophia and Noah had gotten so close.
Remembering the soft touch of Sophia's body last night, he felt an inexplicable flutter in his heart again.
Alexander frowned. When had he become so desperate?
Irritated, he pushed his bangs back and casually picked up his phone to check it.
When he saw the message and photo Jack had sent, his expression instantly darkened.
That annoying Noah again!
The divorce wasn't even finalized, and she was already flaunting her intimacy with another man? Treating him like he didn't exist?
This woman had some nerve!
"Rufus, call Sophia right now!" He dialed his secretary's number, voice angry. "I don't care where she is, I want to see her immediately! Tell her to get back here now!"
Rufus was startled and quickly agreed. "Yes, yes... Mr. Kensington."
After hanging up, Rufus sighed. "These two are impossible to deal with."
Alexander clearly had Sophia's number but insisted on using him as a messenger.
And last night, before Sophia passed out, she actually remembered to tell the estate butler not to call Alexander, but the butler turned around and called him instead. How could he dare hide things from Alexander? In the end, he had to call Alexander to let him know.
Thinking about all this, Rufus felt miserable.
Sophia received Rufus's call just as she was about to push open the door to Emily's hospital room.
She paused, listened to his anxious explanation, then hung up and frowned.
"What's wrong?" Noah's gentle tone carried concern.
"I might need to go back to The Kensington family first." Sophia sighed.
After speaking, she looked through the narrow gap in the hospital room door, gazing deeply at Emily, who seemed to be sound asleep. Her eyes filled with reluctance and guilt.
"I'll drive you." Noah frowned, too.
"No need." Sophia shook her head. "Oh, and remember to thank Victoria for me."
She raised her wrist. A beautiful bracelet covered the red marks on the back of her hand. She shook her hand and smiled. "And thank you for the bracelet, too. It's beautiful."
Half an hour later, at 10:05 PM.
Sophia was brought back to the Kensington family by Rufus.
Alexander stood with his arms crossed, leaning against the white wall in the living room, watching her with a dark expression, saying nothing.
Sophia changed her shoes, composed. "Mr. Kensington, you were so urgent to see me—have you decided to sign the divorce papers?"
Hearing this, Alexander's lips curved into a cold smile. He was about to say something sarcastic when he suddenly noticed a small bandage on her nose.
"What happened to your nose?"
Perhaps it was Sophia's imagination, but she actually detected a hint of concern in Alexander's tone.
"Is Mr. Kensington concerned about me?" The corners of her lips curved slightly, her eyes mocking as they fell on Alexander.
Elizabeth was dead. She had no obligation to keep secrets anymore. Whether or not she told the truth was her choice.
Her nose wasn't working, and tests could reveal that. Noah cared about her and had gotten her some topical medicine. Seeing his kind intentions, Sophia didn't refuse.
"Whatever. If you don't have anything else and you're not planning to sign, then I'm going to my room to rest."
In the end, Sophia decided not to tell Alexander the truth. She withdrew her gaze, her tone polite but distant.
"Do you want to divorce me because of him?"
Alexander looked at Sophia, his fists clenched so tight they cracked.
He had no fondness for this marriage, but he equally hated being divorced without understanding why.
He needed an answer, a clear response.
Sophia's steps halted. A bitter taste rose in her throat, and she suddenly felt tired.
"Alexander, you know what? Liking you is actually really pointless."
Without waiting for Alexander to respond, she walked upstairs without looking back.
Alexander stood frozen in place.
