Chapter 2 I didn't play
Two Weeks Later.
Ryan’s smirk faded as he entered his office, seeing me sitting on his chair.
“What the hell are you doing here?” he snapped at me.
“Enjoying the view,” I said calmly. “Nice office. Shame it’s not yours anymore.”
He froze. “What?”
I turned the laptop towards him, showing him the merger papers.
“Congratulations, Ryan Reynolds. You just handed over your father’s empire to the Young Corporation.”
His face went pale. “That’s not possible…”
“Oh, it is,” I smiled sweetly at him. “You should’ve read the fine print before you played with me.”
He grabbed the papers, flipping through them, and disbelief was written all over his face.
“No… this isn’t…”
“Reality?” I waved my hand to cut him off. “Yeah. It’s real. And you know what else is real?”
He looked up with fire in his eyes.
“I don’t lose,” I smirked. “Not to liars. Not to thieves. And certainly not to you.”
Isabelle entered just then, and panic was written all over her face. “Ryan, what’s happening?”
He didn’t answer. He just looked at me, the girl he once thought was weak.
I stood up and walked to him, “You wanted power. Now you can watch me have it.”
He clenched his fists, and his jaw was tight. “You’ll regret this, Iris.”
I smiled while tilting my head. “Maybe. But at least I’ll regret it with your company under my name.”
As I walked out, I could feel his stare burning into my back, but I didn’t turn around.
The moment I walked out of his office, the entire floor went silent.
People looked at me like they were seeing a ghost.
Well, good. Let them stare. Let them all see who won after all.
But as soon as I stepped into the hallway, I heard fast footsteps behind me.
“Iris!” Ryan’s angry voice echoed in the air.
I didn’t turn. I kept walking ahead.
“I SAID STOP!” he shouted behind me.
I finally stopped calmly. And then after a second of pause, I turned around with a cold smile. “You’re shouting in your own building. Ryan. How sad.”
His face twisted in anger. He walked closer to me, so close that I could feel his breath.
“What game are you playing?”
I shrugged my shoulders nonchalantly. “The same game you played with me. I’m just better at it.”
“You tricked me,” he hissed.
“Oh please,” I rolled my eyes, “Don’t flatter yourself. You tricked yourself. I just… let you.”
His jaw tightened. “Iris Mason, you don’t know who you’re messing with.”
I leaned in slightly, lowering my voice as I spoke, looking into his eyes, “I do. A man who cries inside but pretends he is strong. A man who hides behind a girl he used for one night.”
He froze.
I smiled. “Did I lie?”
Before he could answer me, Isabelle came running out of the office.
“Ryan…” She grabbed his arm while crying, “Everyone is talking inside. They’re saying the company belongs to her now. Do something about it”
I laughed softly at her. “Aww, Isabelle. Why are you shaking? Worried about losing that luxury life already?”
Her lips trembled. “I didn’t know about this merger. I swear, I didn’t…”
“Girl,” I cut her off, “You didn’t even know what Ryan was planning last night. You think I believe you now?”
Ryan snapped at me, “Stop talking like you own the world!”
“Not the world,” I corrected him. “Just your company.”
His anger grew on his face, but something else appeared behind his eyes… it was fear.
I loved it.
He took another step closer to me, “Give me the papers back.”
I lifted my eyebrow. “Give? You think this is a toy I borrowed? Ryan, this is business. Something you clearly never understood.”
“I’ll destroy you,” he roared.
I laughed in amusement. “You already did. And look where we are now.”
His eyes turned to the employees who were watching us from their glass cabins.
He lowered his voice. “Come with me. To my office.” He gritted his teeth, “NOW!”
I tilted my head. “Why? Isabelle waiting inside?”
“I need to talk,” he said through clenched teeth.
“About what? How stupid do you feel?” I said sweetly.
His nostrils flared up. “Iris, don’t make me lose my temper.”
I smirked. “You already lost everything else. Why not your temper too?”
“Come inside,” he repeated, trying to control himself before his employees.
I crossed my arms. “Say please.”
His eyes widened like I said something impossible. “What?”
“You heard me.” I looked into his eyes. “If you want me inside your office, say please.”
The entire hallway seemed to hold its breath.
Isabelle spoke up from the side, looking at me with fear, “Ryan, don’t…”
He looked at her with struggle in his eyes, whether to listen to me or her. His lips were pressed into a thin line. His fists clenched. Then he looked at me with defeated and angry eyes, “Please.”
I smiled, “Good boy.”
I brushed past him and walked back into his office, not waiting for him to walk already.
His own employees looked away, trying to hide their shock and gossip hungry eyes.
Inside the office, I sat on his chair again, casually spinning it.
Ryan shut the door hard. He demanded. “What do you want from me?”
I placed my finger on my chin as I lightly tapped it, pretended to think. “Hmm. Let me think. Maybe an apology?”
“For what?” he raised his brows.
“For treating me like trash,” My voice turning cold. “For cheating on me. For humiliating me. For using me.”
His expression turned into disbelief. “I don’t apologise.”
“I know,” I smiled, “That’s why your world is falling apart today.”
He clenched his jaw. “I didn’t cheat on you. We weren’t married yet.”
“So that makes it clean?” I asked. “Is that your excuse?”
“I wasn’t happy,” he said. “You were always busy with business and your father. Isabelle gave me attention.”
“Oh,” I nodded slowly, “So you played with my feelings because you were bored?”
“I didn’t play…”
