Methis Delis POV

Standing before the Lycan King as Conrad had called his title to me was no easy feat. Sure all it took was just to stand, but there was more to just the standing. There were the stares from his entire entourage. I was originally scared that the welcome would be more loud and full of drinks and laughs and that my husband would try to have me at once in his room, but there was nothing in this world that could have prepared him for what I experienced next. The welcome was quiet and next to nonexistence. The king stood on the steps that led to the castle, towering over me even from the distance we had kept apart from each other. He was huge and intimidating in nature.

I could hardly believe my eyes that I had to be the one who would bear a child for this regal wolf. As much as I thought it weird, it looked as if it was supposed to be an honour. On my way to the castle on foot beside Conrad, I noticed a few women Conrad had whispered to me were also werewolves. They were bigger than the average woman though not overly significantly bigger and they possessed more curves which made me silently wonder why the Lycan King would leave all of that and go for me. However, I dare not utter that thought out loud.

After apprehending me for what felt like almost an hour, and sharing glances with a certain woman who was robed in white and sported bleach white hair as well as Conrad, Jamal the Lycan King –Conrad had told me his name – walked away with his men and the white lady without even uttering a single word to me or anyone.

Once he was gone and the door was shut behind him, I turned to Conrad who he had left behind with me. He must have read the confusion evident in my face because all he did was smile his creepy-looking smile that I was slowly getting used to.

His smile eventually faded with what I thought was a sigh of relief and he spoke: “Bloody hell.”

“What?” I asked.

“You really do look like her.”

“Like who?”

Conrad did not respond but waved me over as we both entered the castle.

Inside of it was large and amazing. Different germs lined the curtains that designed the wall and the wall itself was not lacking in the abundance of ancient art that tattooed it from head to toe. It was a lot to take in at first sight and I knew that even after a week here, there would still be a whole lot to learn and discover in this castle.

I felt tiny inside the castle. Like I should not be here. I kept stealing glances to my side at Conrad trying to observe how he behaved. He kept his head straight as he walked, he did not look regard the art works on the wall or the germs on the curtains even for a second.

“We are here,” he called.

“Where?”

We stood in front of a large door that had two golden wolf heads embodied into the door as its handle. The door had a silver lining and a pattern made of brass that drew something I was too overwhelmed to understand yet.

The moment we got inside I realized that this was my room. Spacious was an understatement for what this room was. Twice of my house’s entire compound was probably not equal to half of this room.

“Quite a decent room, is it?” Conrad asked with a tint of tease in his voice.

“It’s… it’s.” I turned to look at him. He was leaning against the wall picking at his nails. “I don’t know what to say.”

“Well, I suggest you save your breath for when you meet the King.” He walks over to the door. “You might have a bulk load of explaining to do. So do I.” He exits.

The beauty of the room left me and I was frightened.

Jamal Kunis POV

I walked into my room unceremoniously, banging the door behind me as I entered the room. What was my Beta thinking? What was Conrad thinking when he walked into the human world and out of all the choices there were to make, had to settle for a human girl who looked exactly like the Dark Witch? He just had to leave every fish in the ocean and pick the one that resembled the very epitome of pain and suffering, the one that had led their world into war and near extinction.

I took off my outer robe and flung it yards out. It connected with one of the lamps in my room and shattered to the ground, knocking two more glass ornaments on their way to the ground.

Then I heard a knock on the door. I was not in the mood for visitors but still I answered it. “Come in.”

I was expecting it to be Conrad so I paced up to the door angrily but stopped halfway when I saw my surrogate. She took a step back, puzzled, but had already accidentally closed the door behind her. I stare into her eyes until she drops her gaze to the ground. Her eyes subtly scan my room and I sense her fear once her sight lands on the broken glass mess I had made with my coat barely a minute ago.

She was scared of me. She was probably regretting her decision to come here to be my surrogate. But why would an 18-year-old who must have had her own ambitions give it all up to be a surrogate wife? Perhaps only time will tell if it was a ruse and she was who she looked like.

“What is your name?” I asked her.

“Methis, my lord. Methis Delis,” she answered.

My lord, I thought, this one has manners for a human who had no idea of our traditions. I remained silent to see if she was going to speak any further or just stand and eventually, she spoke.

“Please forgive me my lord but I thought it would be wise if I had come to see my husband after what must have been a stressful day.” Her voice was delicate, but it was not without its cracks. “Hope I did not come at the wrong time.”

I regard her for what must have been five minutes. Her legs were shaky, so were her fingers. My presence was torturing her. It was amusing to watch and I laughed.

Methis jerked her head up in surprise at my laugh, nearly stumbling back but holding up in time to regain her cool.

She did not seem to be a bad person. At least she was frightened of me. It was pathetic that I was concerned about her being the Dark Witch. The Dark Witch never fears. This one was 18 and I was 33, she was feeble and I was strong, she was a human teenager and I was the King of the werewolves, what threat could she possibly be capable of carrying against me?

I stood up from the bed I sat on and moved slowly towards her. I could feel her body stiffen with every step I took until I had closed the gap between us and her body was physically unable to stiffen any harder. She still had her head bowed. I raise them up and stare into her eyes though she looked away after holding my gaze for a mere two seconds.

I moved my hands from her jaw up to her lips. Caressing it slightly. My other hand took her hands and I pressed them slightly, trying my best to calm her down but nothing seemed to be working. Somehow, I understood her, it was a lot to take in to be honest, having to change environment so quickly with almost zero time to adapt. She was going from a struggling family to a castle in a matter of hours. It was a lot to take in.

“Have you been fed today?” I asked, trying to show concern.

“Yes, I have.”

“How was the meal?”

“It was wonderful, my lord.”

I wanted to stop her from calling me ‘my lord’ but I decided against it. Let that stay as a form of barrier if she ever tries to go against me or has the thoughts of it.

Methis was till trembling in my arms, not from cold but from fear, I almost forgot that I was still touching her lips, and slowly, I leaned it and replaced my hands with my lips.
