Chapter Five

The whip struck her once and she yelled out loud, tears streaming down her cheeks. The pain sent an unexplainable sensation exploding in her brain.

She looked up and saw the Alpha's sister with a sinister smile on her face. She closed her eyes and cursed the young lady and her generations to come. Such brutal punishment for a negligible error.

The whip struck her once more and she cried. It has spent longer in the fire than the first time. It singed her clothes and her skin badly. Olivia did not have to see her back to know that new scars would have formed.

The cart bumped heavily along the road making Olivia to hiss in pain every now and then. She had been surprised that the head maid still asked her to accompany the Cartmen to the Royal Farm and then to the market.

"I'm sorry for what happened earlier," Cassandra said to her, feeling remorseful. "I do not know why they hate you so much. You always fall victim to their punishment."

"It's not a big deal," Olivia shrugged, smiling tightly. "It's alright Cass."

"No it's not," her friend hissed. "You have so many scars from their punishment. Much more than all the other slaves. It is unfair."

"It doesn't matter Cass. I'm an omega."

"It doesn't mean you should be treated like dirt. I am treated badly but not as badly as you are."

"That is life for you."

"What did you do to offend the Alpha's sister this time around?" She asked.

"I bumped into her while I was on my way to the slave quarters and stained her dress with a bit of water from the cleaning supplies."

"What a demon!" Cassandra exclaimed. "I can't believe she made you get whipped over something as trivial as that."

The carriage finally came to a stop once they had entered the Royal farm and behind them were several other carriages.

The slaves filed out of each one and were led in a straight line to a shed. Later on, they were split into rows and columns and arranged in an orderly manner before being addressed.

"I will be selecting some of you to gather the produce that the harvesters have piled," the supervisor said. He was a middle aged man with a pot belly and a severely hardened face. The man reminded Olivia of one of her uncles. "The rest of you shall arrange it in the cart."

"Yes sir!" They chorused.

"After that is done, you will all trek to the market and then show each store the yag that has been given to you so that they know you are from the palace. The cart will be going back to the pack house to drop off the farm produce. After purchasing the items you have been instructed to purchase, you will meet up with the cart which will be parked at the market entrance."

"Yes sir."

"Do not try to purchase anything funny with the cards," the supervisor instructed. "Remember that the Alpha has eyes and ears everywhere."

There was a collective murmur.

"Silence!" The man commanded with hard eyes. "Now who shall volunteer to be a supervisor? I need someone responsible enough to monitor you all."

"He should have as well trekked with us to the market," Olivia snorted under her breath.

"Sir, why don't you trek with us to the market?" Cassandra said, smiling sweetly upon hearing what her best friend said.

Olivia wanted to strangle her.

The man shot her a glare that would have frozen hell over then he smiled slightly. "You have a mouth like a razor. You are Cassandra, the stubborn slave I was warned about. Are you not?"

Cassandra said nothing.

"Since you are so bold, you will be a supervisor," he said. "I am sure no one shall walk over you."

Olivia smiled slightly, wishing she could be more like her best friend who did not care what anyone said or thought. She loved Cassandra for her fighting spirit.

Cassandra smiled.

There was a murmur and one of the male slaves shouted. "I can't let a woman lord over me."

"Then get out of here and speak with the Alpha. Firstly tell him to remove Druvidia from her position as head maid then I will gladly step down from my place," Cassandra retorted sharply.

After this, the slaves ceased their murmuring and were split into groups. Most of the male ones were sent to get the crop items that had been gathered by the harvesters, others went to get meat and the ladies began to arrange them in the cart. Only a few men were left to arrange with the ladies.

Olivia's body ached as she performed her duties. She was grateful for Cassandra who had asked the supervisor if she could be part of those who arranged.

Somehow, she felt jealous that her friend was easily liked by a lot of people but she shrugged off the thought as guilt ate her up.

After the cart had been arranged, it set off and there was a collective sigh.

"Let us all rest for a bit before we journey to the market," Cassandra said. "I can sense that we are all tired."

There was a murmur of agreement but the rest time seemed too short. Zoom enough they were on the road to the market, chatting amongst themselves and feeling happy for no direct supervision. However the slaves all remained conscious as they knew the implications if they tried anything funny.

Even if no one actively watched them, the Alpha definitely had someone spying on them and they all knew the consequences that would befall whoever tried to escape.

Olivia was immersed in her own thoughts, the cacophony of laughter and chatter turning into a blur. She could not even hear a bit of what her friend was saying as fatigue drained everything within her.

But she was snapped out of her reverie, when chaos resembling that, which had happened two years ago struck.
